Euroguidance Estonia - Foundation for Lifelong Learning Development Innove

Description:

Foundation Innove has been established with the objective to promote initiatives and activities related to lifelong learning through Estonian and EU programmes in the area of human resource development.

The Estonian Euroguidance Centre was founded in 1998 when the Euroguidance Network expanded to include the Associated Countries. Today Euroguidance Estonia incorporates all undertakings in the field of career guidance that take place within the Foundation Innove. Between years 2002 - 2004 this included some projects within the Phare programme, starting from the 2nd half of 2004 the European Structural Funds are expected to bring some valuable input. The Ministry of Education and Research has appointed Euroguidance Estonia to implement all guidance related activities in the field of education within this European funding scheme.

The objective of Euroguidance Estonia is to be a unit in the education sector that provides careers information to practitioners both in Estonia as well as in Europe as based on the principles of lifelong learning.

To fulfill this objective, Euroguidance Estonia has produced many publications for different target groups in both English and Estonian. Education, Labour Market and Career Guidance in Estonia provides a summary of the current situation in the named fields. It was compiled on the basis of the European Guidance Handbook and is aimed at international guidance practitioners. An up-dated second edition will be published in summer 2004. Study in Europe is meant for a wider audience of readers and serves as a valuable handbook of advice for those who wish to study in other countries. In co-operation with the Foundation Archimedes, a booklet on Estonian studying opportunities and life-style issues Study in Estonia was published for foreign students coming to Estonia. Numerous other materials have been developed for the local practitioners and teachers.

Euroguidance Estonia also uses the means of ICT to disseminate useful information related to guidance, career planning and mobility. The centre has participated in the creation and management of several national and international web sites like Rajaleidja, Ploteus, On the Move etc.

In order to support the exchange of careers information and to strengthen the co-operation network, Euroguidance Estonia organises various seminars, information and training days for her target groups, mainly guidance practitioners from different sectors and organisations. Annual summer schools have become a nice tradition, complemented by a recently started tradition of annual winter schools.

Since 1992 many Euroguidance centres have been involved in the exchanges of guidance counsellors. Today the organisers (20 countries) form a network called ACADEMIA which aims at providing the practitioners with an opportunity to observe the changes that take place in Europe and learn from the experiences of their international colleagues. By 2004, 30 Estonian counsellors have already had the possibility to take part in a 1-week exchange to different countries, whereas 37 European counsellors have been hosted in Estonia between 2001 and 2004.

Euroguidance Estonia has also collected a lot of thematic literature both in electronic as well as in printed formats and maintains quite a comprehensive resource library. In co-operation with partners, it responds to information requests and participates in a range of guidance related working groups and fairs each year.
