Introduction Overview Useful Addresses

There are two established systems of guidance and counselling: educational and psychological counselling (education sphere) and vocational guidance and career planning (labour sphere). Educational and psychological counselling services are both provided by schools (educational counsellors, school psychologists) and by educational-psychological centres (EPC´s). Services provided by EPC´s, which are free of charge, may be visited without prior reference. The Institute of Educational and Psychological Counselling of the Czech Republic provide methodological assistance to educational counsellors, EPC´s and education authorities. The major role in the provision of career counselling is played by the Employment Services Administration – each of the 77 labour offices operates a counselling unit, the main task of which is to provide advice and information in relation to the choice of education, career, the search for employment or re-training. Furthermore, a so-called Information and Counselling Centre is a part of each counselling unit. Its aim is to provide professional guidance to pupil, students, graduates and others.
